Escaping the doll aisle

Dakota Tactikos ~ Staff Writer

Life is all about variety and experience, but walking through the halls of East is like walking down the doll aisle at the toy store. Everyone is fake, prepackaged, and exactly the same. I find no point in existence if you’re not different. Life becomes a lot more enjoyable when you live only with your own opinions and ideas.
Don’t suppress your ideas just because you’re afraid of the way they might be perceived. If people can’t accept you the way you are, they probably won’t make very good friends. In fact, when has any great invention or idea come from someone who was considered “normal?” So much more would be accomplished in society if we went with what we felt and shared our own ideas.

You only have one life to live; it should be filled with different experiences and adventures. The worst thing you can do is deny yourself, especially if only to please others. No one has a perfect life. It’s not the way you look, or what you own that makes you unique; it’s the way you think.

It’s often difficult to talk to people and have a genuinely interesting conversation because they don’t speak with their own ideas, only what they have been taught to think. True intelligence comes from a creative mind, one that can formulate its own ideas and beliefs.

People place so much importance on material possessions. But money can’t buy happiness; it can just buy objects that keep you distracted, giving the false perception of joy. A simple life can be much more rewarding than one filled with expensive toys and unneeded frills.

If people just stopped caring what others thought of them, it would make the experience of high school actually quite enjoyable. Worrying is a waste of time. What’s going to happen will happen, no matter how many nights you stay up fretting over it. In relation to the universe we have a minuscule amount of time here and the last thing we need to do is waste it on issues that don’t matter in the long run. Be as you wish to seem, and don’t let things stick to you.
